Introducing Review Articles
Astronomy & Astrophysics (A&A) is a growing platform for astronomers across the world to share their research findings and engage in scholarly discussions. Today we are delighted to announce a new type of article: the Review Article. Review Articles are timely, focused, high-quality assessments of topics covered by the Journal. Why Review Articles? Scientific discovery is accelerating at an unprecedented pace, and keeping up with the latest advancements is often overwhelming. Astronomers, in particular those at the beginning of their careers, are now faced with a deluge of information, making it more challenging to synthesize and contextualize new findings. The A&A Review Articles aim to distill and streamline, and help navigate the deluge.
The A&A Editorial Board invites proposals for Review Articles on any topic currently covered by the Journal. Reviews on fundamental astronomical benchmark objects are also encouraged.
Our aims for the Review Articles are as follows:
Review Articles should provide a synthesis of complex topics, distilling essential information from a vast body of literature. They should offer a clear and concise overview of a field, making it accessible to both experts and those new to the subject.
Review Articles should go beyond mere summaries. They should critically evaluate existing research, identify key trends, and not be afraid to highlight areas of controversy or uncertainty. Review Articles should help readers gain a deeper understanding of the current extent of knowledge of a field, and make them aware of upcoming opportunities.
As part of the A&A commitment to open access, the Review Articles will be freely available to all, further democratizing scientific knowledge and fostering a global community of astronomers.
Reviews Articles can have up to three main authors, experts in their respective fields, and be up to 40 pages long. Review Articles will be peer-reviewed by multiple referees.
We believe that A&A Review Articles will become an invaluable resource for astronomers, researchers, students, and anyone with a passion for exploring the universe. We invite you to read our first Review Article, “Asteroseismic modelling of fast rotators and its opportunities for astrophysics”, by Conny Aerts and Andrew Tkachenko (https://doi.org/10.1051/0004-6361/202348575).
We invite you to explore this new addition to A&A and consider contributing.
